Where It All Began
Nestled in the heart of the Los Altos Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, Black Sheep Tequila was born from a profound passion for the land and a vision to create something truly unique. Our single-estate distillery meticulously crafts premium, handcrafted tequila that redefines luxury and tradition.
By embracing the rich, red clay soils and elevated terrains of Los Altos, we cultivate agave that yields a sweeter, fruitier profile, setting our tequila apart in both flavor and quality. A fifth-generation agave farmer from Mexico and his best friend from Tennessee — bonded by shared adventures and a relentless passion for creation — set out to craft something truly different.

The Craft of Excellence
Black Sheep Tequila is defined by an uncompromising commitment to quality. Crafted in small batches using ancestral Open Air (“In the Wild”) fermentation methods, we honor the authentic identity of tequila — free from shortcuts and additives.
As one of the few tequila brands that owns and farms its own agave, we cultivate over 400 acres under the expert care of our co-founder, 5th-generation agave farmer Rodolfo. Using the traditional “entresaque” method, he hand-selects each agave at peak ripeness (7–10 years old). Our meticulous process begins with an ultra-rare “jima” technique, where piñas are expertly shaved to remove the bitter cogollo before cooking — enhancing the agave's natural sweetness and resulting in a silky texture, zero bitterness, and an exceptionally clean finish.

Aged to Perfection
From farm to bottle, Black Sheep Tequila upholds the highest craftsmanship standards. We use only 100% fully mature Weber Highland Blue Agave, slow-baked to perfection in traditional brick ovens, and distilled in small-capacity copper pot stills.
Our Reposado rests in select Tennessee whiskey barrels, absorbing notes of vanilla and caramel. Our Añejo ages to achieve the complexity that earned it the title of World's Best Overall Tequila. And our extraordinary Extra Añejo 7yr matures for a minimum of seven years — one of the rarest, most awarded additive-free tequilas on Earth.
